I love how when I am out and about at various coffee shops, they are completely decorated with fun Halloween themes and treats. While I know retail contributes to helping rush holidays, it is really sweet to see how some places commemorate these special days that only happen once a year.
Something my mom would do for my siblings and I while we were growing up was to theme out every meal for the ‘holi’day. She would begin with breakfast: We would wake up and have a treat of donuts that morning; a true treat indeed! And they would be colorful with matching sprinkles for that particular holiday. It was something that I secretly never wanted to outgrow, and it’s a tradition my brothers and I will bring up when we get together.
Consider the idea and ‘sprinkle’ the magic of Halloween on your little ones and treat them to a donut. Or, treat yourself! You deserve it. I scouted out a few locations where you can obtain your seasonal donuts:
If in Ohio:
Jack Frost Donuts (I know you’re nodding in agreement here… their seasonal donuts are to die for, which is ideal for Halloween)
If in the United States:
To really encompass the theme and spirit of the holiday, my mom would add a little food coloring to our milk in the morning. We would dine on orange milk to go with our Halloween donuts! It was down to every detail that was so special. Consider swapping the milk for classic orange juice, as it fits the same color story and adds fruit to your breakfast.
How do you celebrate Halloween? Do you have a special meal that brings you back to your adolescence? I’d love to hear!
